As a soul, a spiritual being identified with mind and matter, your life forces blend with your mind and body to energize and enliven them. The initial connection is at the medulla oblongata at the base of the brain. From there, life forces flow from the brain downward, and are distributed through vital centers along the spine and into the body. The Sanskrit word for these centers is chakra, which means “wheel.” Descending life force (prana) changes in frequency-influence at each center to perform various functions in the subtle and physical bodies.
For the meditator, two flows of prana are of interest: the descending flow which carries life force down the spinal pathway, and the ascending flow which reverses it back to the brain. During the early stages of meditation practice it is helpful to identify with the ascending flow and encourage its actions. This will induce life forces which are not needed to maintain ordinary biological function to be withdrawn to the spinal pathway and directed upward to the brain. This action effectively withdraws attention from environmental conditions and sensory perceptions, eliminating these as possible causes of distraction.
Speak this positive affirmation:
Identifying with ascending life forces I withdraw attention from external conditions, eliminating possible causes of distraction.
Have a good day . . . and a great life!
